Treat Toenail Fungus – Destroy This Embarrassing Problem in Private

Let’s take a moment and learn a little as you look for a way to treat toenail fungus. This embarrassing ailment can cause the nails to be brittle and yellow, even black. It is caused by several different kinds of fungi that can also cause athlete’s foot. The problem with toenail fungus is it is very, very difficult to get rid of. The good news is that it isn’t necessarily the result of poor personal hygiene.

Some things that can help you are to remove sweaty shoes and socks from your feet as soon as possible when you’re finished with your activity. Otherwise, the fungi that cause this problem will easily reproduce and get a hold on your body with the hot and wet environment. Roughly three to five percent of all Americans deal with this problem, and it is as high as 18% of the world’s population. It flourishes on shower floors, pool decks, and even in foot-baths that you’d find at a nail salon.

One thing to note – toenail fungus has nothing to do with ingrown toenails. These are two separate issues. Some use zinc products to take care of the problem, while others use medicated nail polish prescribed by their doctor. I’m sure that you, like many others, would be interested in natural home remedies if they would work so you don’t have to embarrass yourself in front of the doctor or other medical personnel.

Some natural cures that can work are applying mashed garlic, tea tree oil (a natural antiseptic from Australia), 3% hydrogen peroxide, or vinegar. These cures can be effective, but some cases of toenail fungus infection are very persistent. Make sure you inform yourself on all of your options so you can take care of this problem quickly and move on with your life.

Need an Over the Counter Nail Fungus Treatment? Read This First!

The causes for nail fungus include molds, yeast, and/or dermatophytes. The infection in one nail can extend to other nails if not treated right away. Toenail fungal infection can also be due to poor foot hygiene and nail damage. As a result, an effective over the counter nail fungus treatment is necessary.

Onychomycosis is the medical term for a fungal disease which occurs in the fingernails and toenails. This condition affects people of different ages, genders and races. Symptoms of toenail fungus include nail flakiness, foul odor emanating from the nails, a dry or ashy appearance and the presence of yellowish spots on the nail bed. Other manifestations of nail fungas includes thickened nails, cracked nail edges and overgrowth of keratin.

Futspa

The typical over the counter nail fungus treatment is packaged as an ointment or liquid treatment. Most liquid nail fungus treatments can be brushed or dropped onto the nails. Antifungal ointments such as Futspa contain antifungal and antibacterial ingredients like lavender and thyme. Apply these ointments onto your toenails daily.

Lotrimin and Lamisil

Antifungal creams such as Lotrimin and Lamisil can help reduce fungal levels and treat symptoms like smell and discoloration. These creams contain Miconazole and econazole. They can also treat other infections caused by other strains of fungus like athlete’s foot, jock itch, and yeast infections.

Oral and Topical Medications

Doctors can also prescribe oral and topical medications which are much stronger than over-the counter creams and ointments. Therefore, if your nail fungas is not affected by an OTC cream, you can ask your doctor for prescription. OTC creams will work only on mild cases of fungus infection and they are effective if used consistently and as directed.

Nail Fungus Natural Treatment

Apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil for nail fungus can also be used for treating fungal nail infections on fingernails and toenails. They can kill the bacteria and fungi which cause the problem.

Pour a few drops of tea tree oil into a cotton swab and wipe the swab over the affected nails two times a day. If using apple cider vinegar, soak the affected nails in a container with a 1:2 mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. You can add a few drops of lavender oil in order to increase the solution’s effectiveness.

Tea tree oil can be purchased from a health food and organic stores and apple cider vinegar is available in most grocery stores.

Will Vicks Cure Toenail Fungus Permanently?

If you have a toenail fungus infection, or fingernail fungus, you are not the only one. Far from it. It’s estimated that over 40 million of us do. They can be very embarrassing and can ruin certain social situations, not to mention our comfort or self confidence. All of us that have it have either search or have searched extensively for a cure that works. The problem is that there are so many rumors out there about what works and what doesn’t. Lately, one that’s been going around is Vicks. Some people claim that they’ve had success with it. So, will Vicks cure toenail fungus? And if so, will it get rid of it for good?

My answer, from my experience trying it for about two and a half months, is a resounding no. Others, however, claim it worked for them. There are a few reasons why this could be. First, there are many different species of fungi that are responsible for onychomycosis, or nail fungus infections. Within those species are different types. It is almost impossible to identify which is the one in your nail. Some things may be effective on some fungi, others may not and vice versa. This could be one reason why some people see success with Vicks and others don’t.

Another reason why Vicks cures toenail fungus for some and not others is the severity of the infection. Really bad ones may need a much more powerful antiseptic while less severe ones don’t. Vicks may be able to cure the lesser infections.

Another question to ask, however, is whether or not Vicks will cure toenail fungus permanently. Just like a bacterial infection, nail fungi can return if not completely killed off. Vicks may work for a while, but will it be strong enough to ensure that it won’t come back?
